Dr. Avit "Frere" Gremillion specializes in diseases of the retina, such as:
Diabetic Retinopathy - the leading cause of vision loss among adults between the ages of 20 to 74
Macular Degeneration - the most common cause of blindness in patients 60 years and older
Retinal Detachment - a medical emergency requiring immediate attention.

Dr. Avit "Frere” Gremillion is best known as "Frere”. He was given this nickname by his family. "Frere” is French for "brother”. Dr. Gremillion was born in Alexandria, Louisiana. His grandfather was a Physician of general medicine and surgery in Central Louisiana. He inspired Dr. Gremillion to pursue a career in Medicine. Dr. Gremillion graduated from Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana-Monroe) with a B.S. in Pre-Medicine. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, Louisiana. From there, Dr. Gremillion did his residency in Ophthalmology at Louisiana State University Medical Center, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Following two years of practicing general ophthalmology, Dr. Gremillion returned to school to complete a Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship at Louisiana State University Eye Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. "I was fascinated by the technology and advancements taking place in this field,” Dr. Gremillion says. "While practicing general ophthalmology, I was treating patients who were experiencing sight-threatening diseases and conditions. I realized then, that I wanted to extend my clinical and surgical skills to assist those patients who were dealing with the potential of going blind”. That is when Dr. Gremillion decided to return to school to advance his training in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery. His specialty includes diagnosis and treatment of Diabetic Eye Disease, Macular Degeneration, Retinal Detachment Repair, Macular Holes, Ocular Trauma, and Inflammatory and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Gremillion is Board Certified and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Tulane Medical Center New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Gremillion performs all surgery locally at Biloxi Regional Medical Center. He is the ONLY full service/full time Retina Specialist on the Gulf Coast to assist you with your eye needs. He has the most advanced equipment and uses the most advanced treatment options available. "To be able to improve a patient's sight is very rewarding”, says Dr. Gremillion. "To be able to give them the ability to keep their sight is more than words can explain”. Dr. Gremillion and his wife Dr. Rachael Tadlock, have a home in Diamondhead, Mississippi. They are the proud parents of two children, Melissa and Cameron.
